12/23/98  IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!!!

By Pony Pal Katie

It’s here!!!!!!! Yes it’s finally here!!!!!!!!!!!

We promised this review back in August when Pony Pal Christa got the book as a SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PRESENT.  Her dad used a new websight called Ebay to get a copy and Pony Pal Christa was immediately considered the luckiest 11 year old at Miskatonic Valley Elementary School even by Yours Truly.

Of course it was Pony Pal Christa's job to review the book but now she is being homeschooled and can't update this websight with me.  But her parents gave me the book and now just in time for Christmas I can finish our project.  Thank you Mrs. Kirkpatrick for changing the grading scale!!!!!!

OK enough of that it is time to get down to business.  I present without further a do my review of PONY PALS #45: THE ELDER PONY!!!!!!!

We have been working hard to review each and every book in the PONY PALS series by JEANNE BETANCOURT but until today we have not been able to.  After Jeanne Betancourt disappeared in 1995 it has been hard to get your hands on a copy on the ultra-super-rare last PONY PAL book and it is what experts call a "collectors item".

PLOT

This book is very different from the other PONY PALS books because it takes place when the main characters Lulu, Anna, and Pam are grown-ups.  Lulu has a job as a reporter which sounds like fun but she has to write about bad things, like a man who hits his wife.  This part of the book is very sad  Eventually she goes back to her old hometown Wiggins because Anna disappeared, and when a Pony Pal is missing all the other Pony Pals come to the rescue.

Lulu doesn't talk alot about horses anymore because she has a job and she says her pony Snow White from the books was "put down" and I don't like that.  But Anna still takes care of ponies only the problem is she is missing like I said.

Lulu meets up with the other Pony Pal Pam who stayed behind and remembers Anna.  She still has ponies too!  This was my favorite part of the book because I look forward to the future when my friends in this class and I will meet up and see what we have become!!!

ANALYSIS

After this the book gets bad and confusing.  Lulu and Pam think Anna was looking for something called the Elder Pony which is also the title of the book.  It was hard to understand but I think the Elder Pony was some kind of alien because they say it came from the stars.  This was very weird!!!  There weren't aliens in other PONY PALS books!!!!!!!! When I read that part I was like “UM, OK”?

The Elder Pony is very big though and it has been on earth for a long time so it is also sort of like a dinosaur.  Pam and Lulu find a cave underneath Wiggins where the Elder Pony is supposed to be hiding, which is scientifically inaccurate because ponies don't live in caves!  But dinosaurs did so maybe that is why.

I am not sure what happens next so I cannot give a whole plot summary. I am sorry Mrs. Kirkpatrick, I tried!  It was very hard to understand though.  There are a lot of words I don't understand and when I look them up in the dictionary they aren't there!  Mrs. Kirkpatrick I promise I tried as hard as I could but they just aren't there.

CONCLUSION

Even though this book is a rare collectors item Yours Truly didn't like it.  I do not think it is a good book!  It is nothing like the PONY PALS series and it gave me nightmares.  There is a part in the book where Lulu has a dream where she holds down Pam's head and lets a pony stomp on it and then Lulu eats her brain.  I am not being overdramatic like my Mom said this is a part that is actually in the book!!! If you don't believe me Mrs. Kirkpatrick I can show you.  I hope it doesn't give you nightmares because I am still having them even though I read the book almost a week ago. It's a dream like in the book except instead of Pam it is someone from our class someone different every time and they all taste different.

In conclusion, PONY PALS #45: THE ELDER PONY is not a good book.  It does not deserve to be a rare collectors item and have so many people pay alot of money for it.  Maybe Jeanne Betancourt disappeared because she wrote such a bad book!!! If you found Yours Truly walking down the street and asked me if this book was YAY or NEIGH I would say NEIGH
